Karumba State School Curriculum

WHAT WE TEACH : -
The Australian Curriculum:  English, Math, Science & History  & The Queensland Curriculum Essential Learnings:  The Arts, (music / dance / drama / visual arts) Health & Physical Education, Technology and Design and  LOTE via tele learning.
Each key Learning Area is broken down into what is taught each term in our curriculum framework and program documents which have been developed at a school level.
We offer a balanced curriculum with constant opportunities for hands on real life learning and rehearsal.

HOW WE TEACH:-
The curriculum is delivered through the Karumba State School Pedagogical Framework (how teaching will be enacted) and programs (when we teach and what tools and resources we utilize) which is based on Blooms Taxonomy. (enquiry based learning)

Our English Literacy Program utilizes THRASS strategies to teach reading, handwriting and spelling. These  have been embedded into our English program and classroom practice.

THRASS
is bank of strategies that focus on  teaching handwriting reading and spelling skills.

Time Allocations for Key Learning Areas: All Key learning areas are given the allocated times recommended by ACARA and Education Queensland to ensure a balanced curriculum is delivered.

Homework:- There is an expectation at Karumba State School  that all students will receive and complete homework.  Homework is not new work but work that has already been taught in the classroom and is given to be rehearsed and shared  at home with parents.  We are aware homework can sometimes be a contentious issue with parents and students.  We strongly encourage parents to communicate with teachers about homework. School is a partnership and we welcome your input.
