Sport
Swimming:
With a swimming pool on site and high temperatures throughout most of the year, the students of Karumba State School have plenty of opportunity for swimming. As part of our school HPE program, swimming is undertaken in both term 1 and term 4. The pool is also host to our annual Swimming Carnival, held in term 4.
During school holidays and on weekends during the warmer months the Karumba P&C employs a pool supervisor. This allows students and community members access to the pool to cool down. There are also opportunities to participate in swimming lessons, catering for beginners through to more experienced swimmers.
Festival of Sport:
Karumba State School hosts a Festival of Sport each year. We invite schools from around the Gulf to compete in a hockey, basketball and sports tournament. The Festival of Sport is held over several days, enabling students from year 3 through year 7 a chance to represent their schools in these sports.
Over 80 students participate in the Festival of Sport each year and with the help of PCAP funding, GSRA, Hockey QLD, Basketball Australia, AASC and the Australian Sports Commission. With the assistance of these organisations, students have an opportunity to work with specialised athletes and referees during the tournament.
Sports Carnivals
Students at Karumba State School have many opportunities to develop skills in a wide range of sports. Each year our students participate in sports carnivals throughout the Gulf. Our students travel to other schools to compete in; athletics programs, soccer, softball, touch football and rugby league competitions.
