Welcome

Welcome to the Karumba State School Website. Karumba State School is a small remote school situated on the Gulf Of Carpentaria, that caters for the educational needs of students from Prep to year 7.   Karumba Township has a stable population of around 600 residents that swells into the thousands during it's peak tourist season. Our community members have roots in all walks of life, with most working  in the fishing, tourism, cattle or mining industries.

Karumba State School currently has 40 students enrolled across 2 classrooms. The current staffing allocations include the  Principal, 2 fulltime teachers, 3 teacher aides, cleaner, grounds person, pool supervisor and an administration officer.

Our students, staff and the school community continually strive to maintain very high expectations for student outcomes, and school staff, and community relations.

We are passionate about education and creating the best possible learning opportunities and life pathways for our students. This  is evident in each of our classrooms and the way we do business on a daily basis.

Each classroom has a dedicated literacy reading block each day which community members and parents are encouraged to contribute to as reading volunteers.

Most students attend boarding school from year 8 to 12, however some families choose to leave  the Karumba community to take their children to High School.  This means that from time to time our enrolments fluctuate.

Karumba State School is a member of the RARSSPOE cluster of schools and enjoys the many sporting,  cultural and academic opportunities that being part of a cluster encapsulates,  including participation in the annual, Croydon Touch Football Carnival and Eisteddfod, the Festival of Sport held in Karumba and the cluster Athletics Carnival held in Normanton.

The Karumba State School P & C holds many fundraising events throughout the school year and accordingly contributes monies to our school. The fete being the most significant event held during the school year.

The school has developed and is continually enhancing its partnerships with the Karumba community, Karumba Port Authority, MMG Mining Lawn Hill, (Minerals and Metals Group) and various small businesses in the Karumba and Normanton Communities. These relationahsips enhance the cultural, human and financial resources of our school. We hope you have enjoyed reading about our school. Please drop us a line or call us should you require further information.
